Well I knew that Barcelona is always a good idea but I never really had a chance to make it happen. So I was super excited about planning my trip there.
The thing is you can experience any kind of vacation you want in Barcelona. You can visit for the culture, amazing food, nightlife, for incredible beaches…
I am myself a summer person so I visited the city in summer, the perfect time to enjoy the beaches and beach parties. We didn’t stay at a hotel. In Europe mostly I prefer to rent a place to feel the city better. So we found a small apartment on Airbnb, which was at Barceloneta. Staying there gave us the flexibility to take early morning swims, nice breakfasts by the beach and large amounts of sangria! The apartment was also close to metro station, which we barely used because what does it mean to visit Barcelona if you don’t take long walks in the city, right?
At the beach you can lay down anywhere you want and take a few drinks from the small cafes. When you say they are “para la playa” (for the beach), they give you the drinks in cute plastic glasses. If you don’t want to move at all, there are people walking around, selling Mojitos by the beach too.
Everyday after swim/sangria sessions, we walked all the way over the Gothic Neighbourhood and amazed by its beauty. We visited Gaudí’s buildings and of course blown away by La Sagrada Familia… It felt so strange how you can easily spot a Gaudí Building, because of its artistic architecture.
When it comes to nightlife, Barcelona has all these big clubs like Opium, Shoko and Eclipse (which is a super sexy club at Hotel W, with an amazing Mediterranean view), by the beach but I can also suggest you La Terrazza if you are visiting Barcelona in the summer. You can dance until dawn and see the sunrise.
I also happened to go to Barcelona Beach Festival (I wish it was Sonar, but still better than nothing) and popular DJs like David Guetta, Avicii and Steve Angelo performed that night. So if you are interested you have a pretty good chance to encounter one of those performances.
Eat as much as paella. I actually could eat paella every single night!
Walk around the city. You can never know what’s around the corner.
Drink all the sangrias and cavas. It is more fun to explore the city.
Lay down at the beach and enjoy the view…
